Copenhagen!

We had a perfect day today. We woke up around 8:30 and went down for the hotel's cute little breakfast. It was so Danish. Smoked salmon sandwiches, little yogurt parfaits, coffee in personal carafes, freshly squeezed orange juice, mini bowls of cereal with goat milk, and of course, danishes. It was a good way to start the day because we walked for over 9 hours today! We went all over the place, mostly following the Design*Sponge Copenhagen guide that I downloaded and marked up with the places that sounded awesome.

Our hotel is so centrally located... Copenhagen is broken up into 6 sections and we walked through 5. We started with the botanical garden which is a few minutes away from the hotel. It's huge, and has a bunch of greenhouses and interesting plants and statues. Not too many flowers though which kind of surprised me. Here was our favorite statue:

Jeff kept striking that pose after he saw it. These were some of the rare flowers in the botanical garden... we have them at our house in Long Beach!! These were taller though. It was a really sunny day, which is why my face is so white. I like sunscreen, but I'm not dead.

The city is so beautiful. The buildings are incredible and the canals are really cool too. If we were ever to move out of the States, it might be here. Probably won't happen though. I'm not that adventurous.

We went to the Danish Design Center which was pretty cool. I love Danish design. Jeff indulged me. We saw this neat building close to it, which was covered in a living wall. It was beautiful, I wish more buildings would do this.

Here I am in front of one of the canals. We didn't go on a canal cruise, maybe tomorrow if the blue skies stick around.

Jeff liked the graffiti pieces on the canal bridge. I kind of did too.

The city has so many flower shops! They had bunches of these gorgeous dahlias, and they were so cheap compared to what we pay for them!

I want this fridge. Smeg's are the coolest, and even better when painted with a flag. I'd buy the Norway edition though.

Towards the end of the day we decided to go to Tivoli, the big amusement park in the middle of the city. We thought it was like Disneyland, but the entrance fee is actually pretty cheap (around $12 each) and then you pay for ride tickets. We just wanted to look around and see people and the rides and the buildings.

Totally creepy bust:

I learned something new about my husband today. He's petrified of heights. I sort of remembered him telling me how he wasn't fond of being up high, but it's a legitimate phobia. I wanted to go on these swings that are super high up, where you can see over all of Copenhagen when you're at the top, and it took about an hour to convince Jeff to sack up and join me. I think in the end he was glad he went on it. The view was out of this world.

Tomorrow we have a few hours left in Copenhagen and then we're off on the train to Stockholm! Last leg of the journey...

Walked for 9 hrs! I hope you brought great walking shoes. And good you did not have our current 90-100 degree F temperatures, especially since Danish beer prices are probably similar to those in Norway (i.e. VERY high). But I hope you both had a chance to have a Carlsberg or Tuborg, or two. Have a great trip on the train to Stockholm. I am sure Britt, Rui, Johanna and Jonatan are anxious to see both of you.

Livie! OMG my friend just got back from Copenhagen and showed me the exact same photo of the flowers growing on the building. I love coincidences like that! I guess it's supposed to represent Europe. Did you know that? Miss you, and I'll talk to you soon. Travel safe and enjoy the rest of your trip!
